The City of Beloit is proud to announce the hiring of its next Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry and an internal promotion to the position of Recreation Supervisor.
Matt Amundson joined the City of Beloit as Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry on October 31. He has over 20 years of experience in Parks & Recreation, including serving in Parks & Recreation Director roles in the City of Middleton and the City of Whitewater.
In his most recent role with Middleton, he was responsible for the city’s parks and conservancy areas, including planning, design, construction and maintenance. He managed the department’s financial resources while managing the department’s needs, including snow removal, equipment, parks repairs, and maintenance. Amundson has significant experience in park improvement and development projects including the CXC Outdoor Recreation & Sports Center, Lakeview Park Shelter, Taylor Park, Treyton’s Field of Dreams, and the Ray Trost Nature Preserve.
In 2019, Amundson received the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association’s Parks Professional of the Year award. He is an active member of the National Park & Recreation Association and a long-time leader in the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association. Amundson holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management.
Nicole Yost was promoted on November 7 to the position of Recreation Supervisor. She has served as Recreation Coordinator for the City of Beloit since 2019. In her role as recreation coordinator, she has overseen several large-scale events such as the Beloit Dirty Dash, Touch-a-Truck, Movie in the Park, and Winterfest. She has assisted in the management of the pool, ice arena, and golf course, as well as managing the paddleboat operations at Riverside Park and adult athletic leagues. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nicole took the lead to provide virtual recreation programming for our residents.
Nicole has nearly 15 years in parks and recreation experience. She is currently a board member for Friends of the Riverfront, and is an active Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association member. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in General Recreation from Chicago State University.
